MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received nearly 60 applications from foreign mass media, which seek accreditation to cover the forthcoming parliamentary elections, BelTA learned from Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on 1 September.
The official said: “As of today we have received 59 applications for accreditation from such major mass media as the Russian news agency TASS, the Chinese television and radio company CCTV, Al Jazeera from Qatar, and a number of major European media.”
Apart from that, over 70 representatives of foreign mass media are accredited in Belarus on a permanent basis. “We assume they will also be interested in covering the parliamentary elections,” noted Dmitry Mironchik.
The official reminded that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be taking accreditation applications from foreign reporters for covering the elections till 4 September. “This is why I cannot rule out the possibility and I even expect that the number of reporters will rise,” added the Press Secretary.
