Olympics 2024: Belarus’ weightlifter Yauheni Tsikhantsou claims bronze

MINSK, 10 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ Yauheni Tsikhantsou secured bronze in the 102kg weightlifting event at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian started his performance with an unsuccessful attempt to lift 176kg in the snatch. Then he cleared his 178kg and 183kg attempts. His result left his 2kg away from the third place and 3kg – from the first one.

In the clean and jerk Yauheni Tsikhantsou cleared his 214kg and 219kg attempts, but failed to lift 228kg. A total of 402kg was enough for the Belarusian to surpass Armenia’s Garik Karapetyan and claim bronze. The Olympic champion title went to China’s Liu Huanhua (406kg). Silver was collected by Akbar Djuraev of Uzbekistan (404kg).

Lukashenko congratulates weightlifter Tsikhantsou on Olympic bronze

MINSK, 10 August (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has congratulated member of the Belarusian national weightlifting team Yauheni Tsikhantsou on winning a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

"Thousands of fans were waiting for this success and believed in you. In the competition with the world’s best athletes, you demonstrated high skill, steel-like character, and graced the Olympic podium,” the message of congratulations reads.

The head of state expressed confidence that the successful performance of Belarusian weightlifters at the Paris Olympic would serve as a good incentive for coaches to continue their fruitful work.

Aleksandr Lukashenko wished Yauheni Tsikhantsou strong health, peace, wellbeing, and new victories for the glory of Belarus.

Belarus’ NOC president congratulates Tsikhantsou on Olympic bronze

MINSK, 10 August (BelTA) - Iron character and will to win helped Belarusian weightlifter Yauheni Tsikhantsou win a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko said in his message of greetings, BelTA learned from the press service of the NOC of Belarus.

According to the head of Belarus’ NOC, the athlete continued the rich traditions of national weightlifting, demonstrating iron character, will to win and mental toughness.

Yauheni Tsikhantsou brought joy to all Belarusians who rooted and cheered for him at the Games. “My sincerely congratulations to you, your coaches and the team on the Olympic medal. Let it become an inspiration for all young athletes on their way to elite sports achievements,” the message of congratulations reads.

Viktor Lukashenko wished Yauheni Tsikhantsou strong health, prosperity and new successes.

Belarusian athletes, who performed in Paris in a neutral status, won a total of four medals. Two medals were brought to Belarus by trampoline jumpers - Ivan Litvinovich won Olympic gold, while Viyaleta Bardzilouskaya claimed silver. Yauheni Zalaty collected silver in the men’s single sculls. Bronze was clinched by weightlifter Yauheni Tsikhantsou. A total of 17 Belarusian athletes competed in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games.
