MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – Belarus claimed the Olympic women’s kayak four 500m bronze in Rio de Janeiro, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian team of Margarita Makhneva, Nadezhda Lepeshko, Olga Khudenko and Marina Litvinchuk clocked 1 minute 33.908 seconds. The Hungarian quartet won gold in one minute 31.482 seconds. Silver went to Germany (1 minute 32.383 seconds).
Earlier, Marina Litvinchuk finished fourth in the Olympic women's kayak 500m final in Rio, 0.102 seconds behind the bronze medalist, New Zealand's Lisa Carrington.
MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) - Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated Belarusian rowers Margarita Makhneva, Nadezhda Lepeshko, Olga Khudenko and Marina Litvinchuk on winning bronze at the Olympic Games in Rio, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.
“Your convincing performance in the Olympic women’s kayak four 500m final has demonstrated stalwart will and outstanding sports mastery of Belarusian rowers to the whole world. The entire country was rooting for you, and you deserve respect for your achievement,” the message of greetings reads.
“Your victory is especially valuable because you had to compete in terms of the unprecedented external pressure on the team,” the head of state noted. “I am convinced that together we will overcome all difficulties to prove the authority of the Belarusian rowing and canoeing team at the biggest international tournaments. That’s the way to go!”
