BREST, 22 July (BelTA) – Brest has started the 2010 World Rowing Under 23 Championship, BelTA has learnt.
At the opening ceremony, Piotr Prokopovich, chairman of the Belarusian union of rowing sports, read out Belarus President’s greeting message to the participants and guests of the 2010 World Rowing Under 23 Championship.
Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Konstantin Sumar noted that Brest has done its utmost to host the championship. “We have the possibility to host the world championship owing to the reconstruction of the rowing canal. The canal was reconstructed in line with the international demands on the instruction of the Belarusian President. We hope that the international competitions of such level will promote the positive image of Belarus in the world sport,” Konstantin Sumar underscored.
The world U23 rowing championship is being held in Brest on 21-25 July. According to the latest data, 59 countries are taking part in the event.
The championship is organized by the International Rowing Federation (FISA), the Belarusian Rowing Federation, the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of Belarus, Brest regional and city authorities.
