Belarus wins 18 Winter Olympics medals as independent state

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – Following the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang Belarus’ total number of medals won at the Olympics reached 18, BelTA informs.

At the Olympic in South Korea Belarus won medals in aerials and biathlon. Anna Guskova clinched her first Olympic champion title in the Ladies Aerials on 16 February. On the next day 2014 Sochi three-time Olympic champion Darya Domracheva took silver in the Women’s Mass Start. Then, Belarus finished 5th in the Mixed Relay and took a sensational victory in the Women’s Relay (Nadezhda Skardino, Irina Krivko, Dinara Alimbekava and Darya Domracheva). Belarus placed 15th in the medal table of the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.

Nadezhda Skardino, Irina Krivko, Dinara Alimbekava and Darya DomrachevaBelarus took part in seven Winter Olympics. Out of 18 medals won at the Winter Olympics ten were collected in biathlon (four gold, three silver, three bronze medals). Darya Domracheva graced the podium six times), with three golds in Sochi in 2014, one gold in PyeongChang in 2018, one silver in PyeongChang in 2018 and one bronze in Vancouver in 2010. Nadezhda Skardino won a gold in PyeongChang in 2018 and a bronze in Sochi in 2014. Irina Krivko and Dinara Alimbekova also has a gold medal each from the PyeongChang Women’s Relay.

Apart from that, the Belarsuian biathletes won two silver medals: by Svetlana Paramygina (Lillehammer 1994) and Sergei Novikov (Vancouver 2010), and one bronze by Aleksei Aidarov (Nagano 1998).

Belarusian freestyle skiers have won medals in each of the Olympic Games since 1998, a total of seven (four gold, one silver, two bronze) medals. The Olympic champion title in Aerials was claimed by Anna Guskova (PyeongChang 2018), Aleksei Grishin (Vancouver 2010), Alla Tsuper and Anton Kushnir (Sochi 2014). Dmitry Dashchinsky won bronze at Nagano 1998 and silver at Turin 2006. Aleksei Grishin also won bronze at Salt Lake City 2002.

Belarusian speed skater Igor Zhelezovsky clinched the 1,000m silver in Lillehammer.
