MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – 19-year-old boxer Dmitry Asanov of Belarus won the Bantam silver (56kg weight category) at the ongoing European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian faced 21-year-old Bakhtovar Nazirov of Russia in the final to lose 1-2 (29-28, 28-29, 28-29).
Bronze medals went to Tayfur Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Qais Ashfaq of the UK.
Dmitry Asanov is the only Belarusian boxer to claim a medal at the European Games in Baku. Vazgen Safaryants (60kg), Vitaly Bondarenko (75kg), Yan Sudzilovsky (over 91kg), Yana Burim (51kg) and Viktoriya Kebikova (75kg) lost in the quarterfinal. Yevgeny Dolgolevets (64kg), Magomed Nurudinov (69kg), Leonid Chernobayev (91kg) completed their performance in the round of Last 18. Ivan Figurenko (52kg) and Sergei Novikov (81kg) were out in the opener.
