MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – Tree beekeeping culture of Belarus and Poland has been inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“On 17 December, the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage decided to inscribe Tree Beekeeping Culture, a joint nomination on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at its 15th session,” the press service said.
Beekeeping is an ancient forestry trade, the initial form of cultural beekeeping. It is based on breeding and keeping forest bees in artificial hives.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the inscription on the list is the result of joint work of the national commissions for UNESCO, the culture ministries of Belarus and Poland, local beekeeping communities, non-governmental organizations and experts of the two countries.
With the inscription of the Tree Beekeeping Culture of Belarus and Poland, the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity now includes four Belarusian elements: the Belarusian rite of the Kolyady (Christmas) Tsars in the village of Semezhevo, Minsk District, the Celebration in Honor of the Budslau Icon of Our Lady (Budslau fest), Myadel District, Minsk Oblast, and the Spring Rite of Jurauski Karahod, the village of Pogost, Zhitkovichi District, Gomel Oblast.
