Villages in Tolochin District receive BP monitors under EU/UNDP project

VITEBSK DISTRICT, 24 July (BelTA) – In Tolochin District 70 remote villages with no rural health posts have received blood pressure monitors under the EU/UNDP project “Support to Local Development in the Republic of Belarus”, the coordinator of this local initiative, the chairperson of the Tolochin district organization of the Belaya Rus public association Alla Kravchenko said at the regional conference to discuss the results of the project in Vitebsk Oblast, BelTA has learned.

“We have identified 70 villages and handpicked responsible individuals, either with medical skills or the elders of villages. In mid-July they were given BP monitors (one per each locality). They took some crash course in blood pressure and measuring. Now they can measure blood pressure of fellow villagers themselves and take an informed decision on further action. Now people will not have to call an ambulance to get blood pressure measured,” Alla Kravchenko noted.

The initiative “Timely Help” aims to increase the life expectancy of people by preventing the development of acute and critical conditions in the cardiovascular system. The effectiveness of the initiative will be assessed a few months on, although there is already no doubt that it is of great help. “We have already received calls from people thanking us for this program,” Alla Kravchenko noted.

The initiative “Timely Help” won the main competition for local initiatives carried out as part of the EU/UNDP project “Support to Local Development in the Republic of Belarus”.
