South Korea donates five vans to social welfare institutions of Belarus

MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) – The Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Belarus donated five Gazel vans to social welfare institutions. A ceremony was held in the republican nursing home for war and labor veterans on 27 June, BelTA has learned.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Belarus Kim Young-Ho gave the keys to the heads of the republican nursing home for war and labor veterans, Kamenets territorial center of social services, the territorial center of social services of Dubrovno District, Rogachev psycho-neurological home for the elderly and disabled, Zhukhovichi nursing home.

It was these institutions that needed additional transport vehicles most of all. Now they can be more mobile and improve the availability and quality of services, Belarus’ Labor and Social Security Minister Irina Kostevich told the media.

The vans have been donated under the program “Official assistance for development”. This is not the first time that the Republic of Korea has provided help to Belarus in the sphere of social services. Last year the republican rehabilitation center for disabled children received medical equipment worth $37,000. Irina Kostevich thanked the government of the Republic of Korea in the person of the ambassador for stable cooperation and invaluable assistance. She noted the symbolism of the fact that the event takes place in the run-up to Independence Day.

For his part, Ambassador Kim Young-Ho thanked the veterans for their courage and for the peace they won. “Your dedication and self-sacrifice are the basis for a strong state. Although the Republic of Korea is far from Belarus, we are also familiar with the hardships of war. To achieve economic growth, we needed help and support from other countries. Based on this experience, we are now trying to provide assistance to other states. And I very much hope that these five vans will be useful,” the diplomat noted. He assured that the Republic of Korea will be happy to provide assistance to Belarus in the social sphere in the future.
