Belarus sends humanitarian aid convoy to flood-hit regions of Ukraine

MINSK, 8 July (BelTA) - By the decision of the head of state, Belarus has sent humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. The humanitarian aid convoy for flood-hit western Ukraine headed off from Minsk to Lvov this morning, BelTA learned from the press service of the Emergencies Ministry.

Five regions in Ukraine were hit by the floods caused by rains on 23-25 June. The worst hit is Ivano-Frankovsk Oblast. A total of 165 settlements have been affected in Ukraine, three people were killed, 110km of roads were completely destroyed, 19 bridges were ruined. Some buildings have been damaged in the affected settlements. There is no gas supply and power outages.

At the request of the Ukrainian side, Belarus has sent two electric power plants, unipumps, tents, more than 1,500 pressure fire hoses of various diameters, individual protective kits for flood relief. The total weight of the cargo, which was formed in the shortest possible time, is 30 tonnes. The contributors were the Emergencies Ministry,  the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim, and AzotKhimFortis company.

The Emergencies Ministry of Belarus shall deliver and escort the cargo. The convoy is led by Deputy Emergencies Minister Anatoly Dolgolevets. The convoy is expected to arrive in Lvov on 8 July.
