MINSK, 6 July (BelTA) – The registration of presidential candidates in Belarus began on 5 July to end on 14 July, BelTA learned from the website of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus.
Canvassing will be the next stage of the election campaign. Common posters with biographical information about the presidential candidates will be printed on 20 July at the latest. The posters will be placed at polling stations. Information materials will be printed as well. The materials will be sent out to voters.
BelTA reported earlier that seven people have filed papers with the Central Election Commission seeking registration as presidential candidates. Those are Viktor Babariko, Andrei Dmitriyev, Anna Kanopatskaya, Aleksandr Lukashenko, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, Valery Tsepkalo, and Sergei Cherechen.
The House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus scheduled the presidential election for 9 August. Early voting is scheduled for 4-8 August. The Central Election Commission is supposed to sum up results of the election on 19 August at the latest. If one is necessary, the second round of the election is supposed to take place within two weeks of the first ballot day or on 23 August.
