BREST, 9 August (BelTA) – Elections have been declared valid in most of the districts in Brest Oblast, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Aleksandr Koleda.
As of 12:00 50.3% of the voters cast their votes. Elections were recognized as valid in 15 districts in Brest Oblast, including in Baranovichi and in Leninsky District of Brest. “I’d say it is an exceptionally good figure. I can’t recall when the voter turnout in Brest Oblast exceeded 50% by noon. I think it is the first time in the history of independent Belarus when interests of the government and its opposition have coincided – everyone encouraged voters to go to polls. I think it was the key factor,” the official said.
There are 910 polling stations in Brest Oblast. There are some 983,900 registered voters. As many as 7,764 people have been accredited as observers to watch the presidential election.
