MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – Belarus will set the date of the upcoming presidential election soon, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during a videoconference call with Moldova President Igor Dodon on 4 May, BelTA has learned.
“Know that you are always a welcome guest in Belarus. You are welcome to visit anytime, as soon as circumstances allow. I know that Moldova is holding the presidential election, but Belarus is going to have the presidential election sooner. We have no reason to postpone it. There is no possibility to postpone the election, according to the Constitution. Therefore, we will hold the election. We will set the date soon. It is going to be summer, definitely. The deadline is the end of August,” the head of state said.
As for the forthcoming presidential election in Moldova, Aleksandr Lukashenko said that Igor Dodon’s approval rating continues growing. “It seems to me that the people of Moldova are ready to support the proposals your team has put forward,” the Belarusian leader said.
The president assured that Belarus is ready to continue developing cooperation with Moldova: “Just know that we are always there for you, that we are always ready to support your people. We can do a lot for Moldova. As soon as you lift your quarantine restrictions, we are ready to visit you, trade with you, communicate with you. We will be happy to see representatives of Moldova here, in Belarus, as well.”
