MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) – I hope the presidential election campaign will be smooth yet not boring, Lidia Yermoshina, the chairwoman of the Belarus Central Election Commission, told journalists in the House of Representatives, BelTA has learned.
“I hope that the election campaign will not be boring or lethargic. At the same time I hope it will not bring problems and turmoil that we had in 2010, Lidia Yermoshina said. When we see those who intend to become a presidential candidate, then we will be able to know what kind of the election campaign we will have,” she noted.
However, Lidia Yermoshina noted with regret that only one person has been active so far. This is Count Alexander Prushinsky. Unfortunately he cannot get nominated because he is not a citizen of Belarus by birth. “He is a charming cheerful man, and he has been active but we cannot register him,” Lidia Yermoshina explained.
When asked how western observers will assess the upcoming elections Lidia Yermoshina said, "We hope for the best and we need to work hard not to give grounds for criticism." According to her, disadvantages can be found in any job, but they should not affect the elections and the expression of will by citizens.
