MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) - Investment in human resources, education and science can be the focus areas of Belarus’ social and economic development program for 2016-2020, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives’ permanent commission on economic policy Vladislav Shchepov told BelTA.
According to the MP, the draft five-year plan will be the main document presented for discussion at the 5th Belarusian People’s Congress. “In my opinion, one of the priorities of the program may be the investment in human resources, education and science which are the key to innovative development,” said Vladislav Shchepov.
He believes that among the most urgent issues high on the agenda of the Belarusian People’s Congress will be the improvement of people’s wellbeing and living standards. “Economic development is the foundation of welfare. In the present-day conditions it is necessary to keep the competitive edge of the domestic companies and the national economy through improving the quality of management of the introduction of modern innovative technologies to produce and sell products, first of all, to export markets,” the MP said. He also stressed the potential of small and medium-sized business in securing the economic growth, exports and new jobs.
Vladislav Shchepov said that he would take part in the Belarusian People’s Congress for the first time. He hopes to discuss the current problems of voters and labor collectives and suggest possible solutions to them.
The 5th Belarusian People's Congress will be held in Minsk on 22-23 June to discuss the social and economic development program of the Republic of Belarus for 2011-2015 and the major guidelines of the country's social and economic development program for 2016-2020. It is expected that the event will be attended by 2,500 people.
