GOMEL, 1 July (BelTA) – The youth patriotic event "White Rus under the White Wings" dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus and the 71st anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders will be held in Gomel on 1 July, BelTA learned from the Gomel city committee of the BRSM Youth Union, which is the organizer of the event.
The event will be held at the monument to the Komsomol members of Gomel Oblast who were killed during the Great Patriotic War. All citizens are invited to come and bring a paper stork, a symbol of Belarus, peace and prosperity. Hundreds of young people will release balloons into the sky with the paper storks attached to them.
The venue of the event was chosen on purpose. The monument symbolizes the significance of the youth resistance movement in the Great Patriotic War. Built in 1964, the monument was reopened after renovations on 8 May, prior to the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory. The monument renovation project was initiated by the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus with the participation of the BRSM Youth Union.
