MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) – Canada welcomes Belarus’ role in promoting settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, head of the Canadian delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Hedy Fry said as she met with Vice Speaker of Belarus’ House of Representatives Boleslav Pirshtuk, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian parliament.
According to Hedy Fry, Canada takes positive note of Belarus’ achievements in human rights and democracy. Canada also commends Belarus’ role in the effort to solve the Ukrainian conflict.
For his part, Boleslav Pirshtuk emphasized that Belarusians and Canadians have always been close despite the enormous distance. The Canadian kindness and hospitality are well-known in Belarus: Canada was one of the first countries to provide assistance to Belarus in the wake of the Chernobyl accident.
The vice speaker extended greetings on Canada Day and the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation. He pointed out that Belarusians have a deep respect for Canada’s contribution to peacebuilding efforts around the world and for their day-to-day work for the benefit of all.
The press service added that the sides discussed the Belarus-authored resolution on countering the emergence of new psychoactive drugs, which was supported by a majority vote at the OSCE PA session.
