MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – The atmosphere at the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 is fantastic, European Games Executive Director Simon Clegg said in an interview to the STV channel, BelTA has learned.
“This is a terrific atmosphere that unites people of Belarus and foreign guests. They come to enjoy the festival of sport. The hosting of such an international forum will help Belarus make a name in the world, and not only via TV. Images on TV cannot replace live communication and presence in this incredibly beautiful city,” Simon Clegg said.
In his words, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and the country’s government have done a lot to host the event. “The entire Europe has learned about your country. Many Europeans have never been here. A visa-free entry introduced in Belarus during the games will undoubtedly become a catalyst for tourists to visit your city. This will also enhance the country’s investment attractiveness,” he said.
Simon Clegg first visited Minsk more than 30 years ago. He said the difference is huge. “This is really amazing how the city has changed since then. The city has many green zones, a lot of open space, beautiful zones along the river. A great environment for life and tourism,” he said.
Belarus will gain valuable experience in the organization of international competitions. This will add confidence to the country’s future bidding to host other international competitions, Simon Clegg said.
