MINSK, 2 June (BelTA) – A constructive dialogue between the East and the West is in the national interests of Belarus, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media prior to the international conference as part of the Minsk Dialogue expert initiative on 2 June, BelTA has learned.
“We are not going to choose any side. I do not like the fact that Belarus should be a bridge between the East and the West. We, proceeding from our national interests, are trying to suggest ideas that could help build a constructive dialogue between different opponents,” said Vladimir Makei.
The diplomat stressed that it is impossible to do without a sincere and compelling dialogue between the conflicting parties today.
In his words, the Minsk Dialogue expert initiative helps work out fresh and to some extent offbeat ideas to address the existing problems. “We need to abandon bellicose rhetoric. We need to work towards mutual trust and use it as a basis to develop relations,” the minister said.
