MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – Belarus is determined not only to preserve its ties with Russia but strengthen them, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said in an interview with the Polish daily newspaper Rzeczpospolita, BelTA has learned.
Vladimir Makei noted that Belarus depends on Russia economically today. This is why the recent crisis developments in the Russian economy have an impact on the situation in the country.
“In the current situation, amid the global economic crisis, we have come to understand that in order to minimize such influence we need to have good economic, trade, political and other relations with all the countries. This does not mean that we are going to break our relations with Russia. On the contrary, we will preserve these ties and, perhaps, strengthen them,” the diplomat said.
The minister added that Belarus wants to have good relations with other important trading, economic and political partners, including Poland.
