MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik and his Egyptian counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry had a brief meeting with Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, President of the 28th conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, BelTA has learned.
The meeting took place in the United Arab Emirates as part of the preparations for the delegation head to participate in a high-level segment of the UN climate change summit.
The 28th conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (aka the world climate summit aka COP28) is taking place in Dubai on 30 November – 12 December. As the president of the conference and one of the world’s top oil producers the United Arab Emirates hopes to convince the international community that low-carbon future is possible without refusing to use fossil fuels.
In the days of the conference Dubai will welcome over 70,000 delegates from various countries. The number includes heads of state, representatives of major corporations and non-governmental organizations, reporters, experts, and researchers. The number of participants of the current conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is believed to be the highest on record.
