MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Austria Valery Voronetsky and the embassy staff took part in the wreath ceremony at the Soviet War Memorial in Schwarzenbergplatz, one of the central squares of Vienna, on 13 April, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Austria.
The ceremony was held as part of the events to mark the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the Day of Vienna’s Liberation. Attending the event were heads and employees of the CIS diplomatic missions, other states, international organizations, WWII veterans, Vienna local authorities, Austrian public organizations. An official reception was organized at the Russian embassy on behalf of the heads of the CIS diplomatic missions accredited in Vienna.
The Heroes' Monument of the Red Army in Vienna was built to commemorate 17,000 Soviet soldiers who fell in the Battle for Vienna of World War II.
