MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) – The Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Korea will engage in talks over the mutual abolition of visas, Shin Gye-ryoon, member of the Strategy and Finance Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Head of the Association of Friendship with Belarus at the Korean National Assembly, told reporters on 29 January after he met with Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko, BelTA has learned.

“The two countries are now carefully studying a possibility to conclude a visa abolition agreement. We will collect the necessary information through the embassy (of Belarus – BelTA’s note) in the Republic of Korea,” Shin Gye-ryoon said.

In his words, the matter had been discussed a day before, during the meeting of Korean and Belarusian MPs. “We got even more determined to sign the agreement in the future. After I come back to Korea, I will continue working on the matter. I think a positive decision will be made,” the MP added.

At present nationals of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Korea need to obtain visas to enter the territory of the other state. However, holders of diplomatic and service passports can stay in the other country without visas for up to 90 days in line with the bilateral agreement signed on 5 November 2007.

Shin Gye-ryoon has been advocating the abolition of visas between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Korea for a long time. He held consultations about this matter in government agencies. The matter was discussed on the level of First Deputy Premier of Belarus.
