MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei expressed condolences to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in connection with a despicable murder of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov, BelTA learned from the Twitter account of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Vladimir Makei offered his condolences to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with a view to the barbaric killing of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov,” the message reads.
According to the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vladimir Makei personally conveyed his condolences to his Russian counterpart.
“We strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack in the result of which Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov was murdered. We offer our sincere condolences to his family. There is no justification for terrorism,” the Belarusian ministry posted on its Twitter account.
On 19 December Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov was shot dead in Ankara. An armed man broke into the Gallery of Contemporary Art which hosted a photo exhibition called "Russia as seen by Turks". Andrei Karlov was shot in the back as he made speech at the event.
Andrei Karlov died as a result of his injuries.
Three more persons were reportedly injured in the attack. The killer of the Russian diplomat died in a shootout with police soon afterwards.
