MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Czechia have signed documents aimed at expanding cooperation, BelTA has learned.

In particular, as a result of the eighth session of the Belarusian-Czech commission on economic, industrial, scientific and technical cooperation on 19 May the sides signed the final protocol of the session and a memorandum on cooperation in the area of standardization, metrology, and conformance evaluation.

According to co-chairman of the commission, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov, an effective business forum was held on the sidelines of the session. The forum ended with a business matchmaking session. Over 30 companies representing Czechia held negotiations with over 100 Belarusian companies, which expressed a strong interest in various economic projects. Meanwhile, Czech Industry and Trade Minister Jan Mladek is in Belarus on a visit. He took part in the session of the Belarusian-Czech commission on economic, industrial, scientific and technical cooperation and is expected to meet with a number of Belarusian officials.

In turn, co-chairman of the commission, Czech Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Jiri Koliba remarked that Belarusian colleagues are already invited to take part in the session in Prague in May 2017.

The vigorous work of the Belarusian-Czech mixed commission on economic, industrial, scientific and technical cooperation greatly contributes to the advancement of bilateral economic cooperation. The commission has set up a number of working groups focusing on power engineering, agriculture and food, transport, mechanical engineering, scientific, technical, and innovative cooperation, as well as forestry industry.

Czechia is one of Belarus’ top 30 trading partners in terms of Belarusian export. The basic Belarusian exports are oil products, goods made of ferrous metals and aluminum, cables and wires, potassium and nitrogen fertilizers, synthetic fibers, parts and accessories for automobiles and tractors, napkins and paper towels, soft roofing materials, electric appliances for ensuring the safety of and for controlling transportation, timber, firewood, nonwoven materials, harvesters and tractors, flax and other goods.
