BAKU, 16 May (BelTA) – Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev has invited Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko to attend a climate change summit in Baku in November 2024. Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev made the statement after negotiations with his Belarusian counterpart on 16 May, BelTA has learned.
According to Ilham Aliyev, he has already sent a written invitation to the Belarusian leader. Today he personally invited Aleksandr Lukashenko to attend a climate change summit in Baku in November 2024. By that time the heads of state intend to hear out reports from officials on fulfilling the instructions given during the current visit.
The United Nations Climate Change Conference or the climate summit has been held every year since 1995. Countries parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change take part in it. Negotiations within the framework of the Kyoto Protocol are also held during the conference.
The previous summit took place in Dubai, UAE in November-December 2023. Substantial delegations from over 150 countries took part in it. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko also attended the conference.
The next climate summit is scheduled to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan on 11-22 November 2024.
