Zimbabwe expects delivery of 4,000 farming vehicles from Belarus

MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) - Zimbabwe expects the delivery of 4,000 vehicles of Belarusian-made agricultural machinery, BelTA learned from The Sunday Mail, a Harare-based newspaper.

The media notes that over the past three years Zimbabwe has received from Belarus at least 2,000 high-tech tractors, 80 harvesters and other agricultural machinery designed to modernize the agricultural sector and increase productivity.

The next stage of agricultural mechanization in the country has started this year and envisages the delivery of another 4,000 vehicles of Belarusian-made machinery for soil preparation and cultivation, sowing and application of chemicals, weeding and harvesting. According to specialists from Zimbabwe, this will be a step towards modernizing local agricultural systems.

Belarusian machinery is also available for farmers. They get assistance from farmer-friendly banks to purchase equipment on lease, and such bank programs provide for an initial payment of 15% of the cost and further repayment of the balance within an agreed period.

Zimbabwe currently has a fleet of almost 13,500 tractors and over 300 harvesters. Since 2019 alone, the number of tractors in the industry has increased by 6,500 vehicles.

Another important step is Belarus' establishment of a company in Harare to service its equipment. Belarusian engineers train local engineers to repair, maintain and operate the vehicles. This significantly increases the demand for Belarusian machinery.

Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers Union emphasizes that efficient mechanical tillage helps reduce production losses and the time spent on the required operation.
