MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) – The World Bank is interested in expanding cooperation with Belarus in supporting structural reforms via lending to social and infrastructure projects. These matters were discussed during the meeting of Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoly Kalinin and World Bank experts led by the World Bank’s Country Director for Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine Qimiao Fan, the press service of the Belarus government told BelTA.
During the meeting the sides discussed progress in implementing Belarusian projects in the sphere of housing and utilities industry and transport and the problems encountered in the course of their implementation. Close attention was paid to discussing Belarusian proposals for broader cooperation with the World Bank and promising avenues of such cooperation with regard to water and heating supply, treatment of municipal waste, the enhancement of energy effectiveness and the development of transport infrastructure.
The World Bank representatives noted the need to improve the implementation of projects and the spending of the resources lent by the World Bank. They also spoke in favor of expanding cooperation with Belarus in supporting structural reforms via lending to social and infrastructure projects.
Anatoly Kalinin thanked Qimiao Fan for the latter’s active stance on advancing cooperation and for the World Bank’s considerable assistance with developing the infrastructure and life support systems of Belarusian populated localities.
Anatoly Kalinin instructed the Housing and Utilities Ministry and the Transport and Communications Ministry to secure effective control over the implementation of the projects financed by the World Bank in addition to constant practical interaction with World Bank experts for the sake of resolving emerging issues.
