Work in progress to sell Belarusian electric buses to Europe

Work in progress to sell Belarusian electric buses to Europe

MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) – Belkommunmash is busy making pre-production models of electric buses in order to sell them to the European market in late 2019 – early 2020, BelTA learned from Aleksandr Klakevich, Acting Head of the Foreign Economic Activities Office of OAO Managing Company of the Holding Company Belkommunmash.

The executive said: “We gradually build up our export potential. Electric buses have already been sold to Azerbaijan. There are good chances of exporting our products to Georgia. We are now making two pre-production models of electric buses in line with European standards, this is why either at the end of this year or at the beginning of the next year we are going to penetrate European markets.” So far the company has shipped about 90 vehicles, including four electric buses to Azerbaijan.

Aleksandr Klakevich also spoke about efforts to build up trolleybus production. “There are a lot of trolleybus systems. There is no sense in destroying them but there is sense in keeping them in a working order. For instance, about 11,000 trolleybuses are used in Russia. On the whole, the market is rather large. There is demand. Our job is to satisfy it,” he noted. Belkommunmash offers a broad range of trolleybuses of various modifications. State-of-the-art technologies are employed as part of the manufacturing process.

Yelena Zhuchenko, Head of the General Power Engineering Department at the Belarusian state power engineering research institute BelTEI, pointed out that a concept is in development to convert urban transport in the oblast capitals and Bobruisk to electric traction by 2025. There are plans to consider gradually expanding the use of electric buses and autonomous-motion trolleybuses.

Belkommunmash is a leading manufacturer of ground urban electric transport in the CIS space. The company makes trolleybuses, trams as well as standard-capacity and increased-capacity electric buses.
