MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian nuclear power plant has started a program to commission the first unit, BelTA learned from representatives of ASE Group. The company is the general designer and general contractor for the project to build the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
Specialists have started individual tests and tests of the primary and secondary equipment of the reactor unit, which will be used for hydraulic tests and circulation flushing.
The standard program for commissioning units of nuclear power plants with water-moderated power reactors consists of four stages: prelaunch tuning (Stage A), physical startup (Stage B), power startup (stage C), and test operation (Stage D).
The main purpose of the first stage is to check the ability of systems and equipment to operate within design parameters before fuel is loaded, BelTA learned from Vitaly Polyanin, ASE Company Vice President and supervisor of the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction project. The hermetic seal of the reactor building is also checked during this stage.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using a Russian design featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
