MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) – Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva Yuri Ambrazevich met with Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang on 23 September, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.
The meeting took place in the WIPO HQ ahead of the 62nd Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of WIPO Member States. The series is scheduled for October 2021.
Yuri Ambrazevich outlined the practical significance of Belarus’ cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization across the entire spectrum of matters concerning the protection of intellectual property.
Belarus acceded to the WIPO’s Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled in October 2020. Belarus became party to the WIPO’s Hague Agreement Concerning the International Deposit of Industrial Designs in July 2021. The WIPO has provided practical assistance to Belarus with organizing a summer school on intellectual property in July 2021.
In turn, Daren Tang praised progress in the WIPO’s interaction with Belarus in recent years. Daren Tang confirmed readiness for expanding bilateral cooperation, including in matters concerning support for innovations, commercialization of intellectual property. Daren Tang welcomed Belarus’ efforts to foster innovations, which allowed the country to get its own rating in the Global Innovation Index 2021.
Yuri Ambrazevich conveyed the prime minister’s invitation for Daren Tang to come to the Republic of Belarus on an official visit.
