Vitebsk to host Belarusian-Slovak investment forum 12-13 July

VITEBSK, 18 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian-Slovak investment forum will be held in Vitebsk on 12-13 July, BelTA learned from Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic in the Republic of Belarus Aleksei Sychev.

The event is becoming traditional for Vitebsk. This year it is going to be more representative. Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs and of Culture of Slovakia are expected to attend, according to preliminary information. More than 30 Slovak companies that have been operating or eyeing the market of Vitebsk Oblast have confirmed their interest in the business event. The forum will consider the projects in energy, in particular, the participation of Slovak companies in the construction of the Beshenkovichi hydroelectric power station on the Zapadnaya Dvina River and a number of other small and medium-sized plants. “The matter is that Slovakia produces turbines for hydroelectric power plants. So there is a possibility to attract tied loans for these projects,” Aleksei Sychev said.

Some proposals are at the stage of development: to build a cattle breeding complex, to set up an innovative timber manufacture and an enterprise to recycle used electrical household appliances and electronic equipment. Initiatives to be discussed might include the supply of petroleum products, liquefied gas and other products to Slovakia. Agreements on cooperation will be signed between Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine, Vitebsk State Medical University and universities of Kosice, gymnasia and schools from Vitebsk Oblast and Slovak regions that have twinning agreements. Resorts of Slovakia and Vitebsk Oblast will arrange the presentation of their facilities during the forum.

The investment forum will be the central event of the Days of the Slovak Republic at the International Festival of Arts Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk. A Slovak pavilion will feature the country’s traditions, cultural heritage and national cuisine. Film screenings and exhibitions of Slovak artists will be arranged as well.
