VITEBSK, 1 July (BelTA) – The twinning agreements between Vitebsk and the Slovak city of Kosice and also between Vitebsk District and the Slovak town of Holic are to be signed during the Belarusian-Slovak Business Forum. The event is due in Vitebsk on 8-10 July, BelTA learned from the Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic in the Republic of Belarus Alexei Sychev.
The institutions of higher education in Kosice and Vitebsk are also set to sign cooperation agreements.
More than 50 Slovak companies have confirmed the participation in the business forum. The agenda includes a plenary meeting and panel discussions "Innovative development and investment projects of Vitebsk Oblast", "Light industry. Ideas and technologies”, “Innovative projects of the universities of Vitebsk Oblast”, a business matchmaking session and visits to the local enterprises. In addition, there will be a Belarusian-Slovak tourist fair where representatives of the tourism industries of the two countries will be able to present their services not only to the participants of the business forum but also to all residents and guests of Vitebsk as the city will be hosting the International Festival of Arts Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk.
"We hope that thanks to direct contacts between business of the two countries we will be able to work more actively in the areas of mutual interest: oil refining, power engineering, food industry, mechanical engineering and a number of other industries," said Alex Sychev.
The forum also has a cultural program. On 8 July the Vitebsk Art Museum will host the opening of the personal exhibition of the renowned Slovak artist Pavel Pop "Tribute to the great masters" (a series of drawings-portraits created in 2008 and dedicated to the greatest artists of the world and their most famous works). On the same day the Mir cinema house will hold an evening with Slovak film actor Milan Knazko and will screen his films within the next three days. The Slovak cuisine will be presented during the Slavonic Bazaar festival, added Alexei Sychev.
This is the first time that Vitebsk will host such event. It was initiated by the Vitebsk-based Honorary Consulate of Slovakia in Belarus. The event has been organized by the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee and the Vitebsk Regional Marketing Center.
