VITEBSK, 29 October (BelTA) - UNIDO experts will help enterprises of Vitebsk Oblast save energy and resources. The first step towards this was the open forum to discuss the resource-efficient and cleaner production dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the United Nations which was hosted by the Vitebsk Oblast committee of natural resources and environment, BelTA has learned.
The main event on the program was the practical seminar "Effective enterprise - clean environment - green economy” which was attended by representatives of more than 30 large industrial enterprises of the region, regional and city administrations, the oblast committee and the district environment inspectorates.
A team of experts led by the regional coordinator of the UNIDO Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) program in Belarus Sergei Dorozhko spoke about the main goals and objectives of the program which is to avoid contamination of the environment by reducing the use of resources and raw materials. "There is a need to ensure that a higher percentage of raw materials turn into products rather than waste. This requires a systematic and detailed analysis of production processes and production equipment, i.e. technical-environmental audit/evaluation. Another task is to minimize the risks for people and the society as a whole. The UNIDO program is now operating in 55 developing countries and countries with economies in transition,” said Sergei Dorozhko.
The national experts trained according to the UNIDO RECP international methodology spoke in detail about the major components of the program and its 6 groups (raw materials, water, energy, waste, waste water and emissions). The successful experience of the UNIDO program was demonstrated with the help of practical examples in Belarus. Sergei Dorozhko noted that a month ago Vitella Company signed an agreement with the RECP program and urged others to follow suit and obtain useful information about the methods and techniques to conserve resources and reduce harmful emissions.
The forum was organized by representatives of the UNIDO Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) Demonstration component Project in Belarus, with the active participation and assistance of the Vitebsk Oblast committee of natural resources and environment.
