UAE name areas for investment in Belarus, ready to set up joint companies

ABU-DHABI, 31 October (BelTA) – Concrete areas for potential investment in Belarus and the possibility for setting up joint companies were discussed at the meeting between Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan on 31 October, Belarus’ Ambassador to the UAE with concurrent accreditation to Qatar Roman Golovchenko told media, BelTA has learned.

“This area attracts the interest of the Emirates. The UAE companies and investment funds put a part of revenue from the export of energy carriers in promising and profitable assets abroad. These are both portfolio investments in capital assets and direct investments in promising developing companies. We are glad that the UAE see and have already named certain areas of interest in Belarus,” the diplomat said.

“These talks will be continued at the level of experts. The parties need to compare their positions. We see a serious interest from UAE investors,” said Roman Golovchenko.

In his words, the parties also talked over the issues of classical trade and economic cooperation. Belarus is interested in increasing its supplies to the UAE market. “These are food products and products of woodworking companies. These areas are of big interest to the UAE,” the Ambassador said.

He added that UAE counterparts are first of all interested in setting up joint companies in Belarus with their capital to produce goods the UAE market needs with the use of the Belarusian raw material, technologies and personnel.

“We are happy with such form of cooperation as well. This issue was discussed in detail. The governments will be tasked with selecting and preparing 3-4 promising projects for the forthcoming visit of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi next year,” said Roman Golovchenko.
