Turkmenistan views Belarus as promising partner in big transit project

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) – Turkmenistan views Belarus as a promising partner in a large-scale transit project, Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov told reporters after the talks with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 11 May, BelTA informs.

The talks focused on the prospects of cooperation in transport. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that Turkmenistan and its partners are developing a combined network of the transport transit and logistics infrastructure. It will comprise transit continental corridors to the regions of the Caspian Sea, the Black Sea, and the Baltic Sea. “We view Belarus having modern infrastructure and a favorable geographic position as a promising partner for the fulfillment of these plans,” the President of Turkmenistan remarked.

Belarus and Turkmenistan pay much attention to the expansion of partnership ties between business communities. “There are big reserves for the diversification of our cooperation in this field, establishment of joint ventures, search of the new forms of cooperation in the manufacturing, services and processing sectors,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said. The sides agreed that these mutual business ties will be supported at the state level.

The Turkmenistan leader stressed that Turkmenistan views Belarus as a long-standing and reliable partner. The construction of the Garlyk mining and processing factory for the production of potash fertilizers is a good example of cooperation.

During the talks the sides agreed to bolster partnership in manufacturing, agriculture, textile production, construction, and other areas. According to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the countries will do their best to raise and diversify bilateral trade.

The fuel and energy sector is another important field of interaction. “Turkmenistan is ready to ramp up the delivery of fuel and energy products to Belarus, implement other joint projects,” the Turkmenistan President added.
