MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) - Telekom Austria Group plans to expand its business in Belarus. The matter was discussed at a meeting between Belarus’ Ambassador to Austria Alena Kupchyna and Chief Executive Officer of Telekom Austria Group Alejandro Plater at the Telekom Austria Group headquarters in Vienna on 18 May, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Austrian representatives got the head of the diplomatic mission familiar with the major areas of Telekom Austria Group’s activity on the target markets, including Belarus, and announced its plans to expand business in Belarus. The chief executive officer emphasized the importance of the Belarusian market for Telekom Austria Group and its attractiveness both in the middle and long-term perspective.
Alena Kupchyna stressed Belarus’ advantages as an investment platform both regionally and globally and told the chief executive officer of Telekom Austria Group about Belarus’ efforts to improve doing business conditions and liberalize the economy.
Telekom Austria Group is a leading provider of digital services and communications solutionsin Central and Eastern Europe with more than 24 million customers, currently operating in seven countries: Austria and Slovenia (A1), Bulgaria (Mobiltel), Belarus (velcom), Croatia (Vipnet), the Republic of Serbia (Vip mobile) and the Republic of Macedonia (one.Vip). The group achieved revenues of €4.21 billion by year end 2016. The company employs over 18,000 specialists. 59.7% of the group’s shares are owned by Mexico’s America Movil, 28.42% - by Austria’s Osterreichische Bundes-und Industriebeteiligungen GmbH, the rest – by minority shareholders. Telekom Austria Group bought 70% of shares of the Belarusian mobile operator velcom in 2007 and finalized its acquisition of velcom in 2010. Today, the velcom client base makes up 4.9 million customers.
