Social commitments to remain priority of Belarus’ 2024 budget

MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – Social commitments of the government will remain a priority of the 2024 budget, Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said during a meeting in the Oval Hall of the Government House with members of the House of Representatives and members of the Council of the Republic to consider the bills “On the national budget 2024” and “On amendments to the Tax Code of the Republic of Belarus”, BelTA has learned.

“While drafting the 2024 budget, an agreed decision was made to tie the budget to the economic development forecasts. Social focus will be a priority of the next year’s budget. There are plans to increase the consolidated budget spending on education by 13.8% (a total of Br11.8 billion), healthcare by 11.6% (Br11.6 billion), as well as wages. The wage fund will expand by 12.4% to amount to Br26.2 billion,” said Roman Golovchenko.

Meanwhile, Belarus will continue repaying the public debt on a timely basis; budget support for exporters will be increased by 20%, the prime minister noted.

“The entire package of forecast documents has been compiled in accordance with the requirements of the head of state. The government and the entire vertical of power will have to work hard to maintain a balanced development of the country,” added Roman Golovchenko.
