MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) – First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Nikolai Snopkov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Xie Xiaoyong visited construction sites of the National Football Stadium and a world-class swimming pool. They were made familiar with progress of the construction projects and discussed topical matters concerning their realization, BelTA has learned.

The construction of such massive sport facilities that meet international standards in Minsk is the result of a personal agreement between Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and China President Xi Jinping. The stadium and the swimming pool are being built within the framework of gratuitous technical and economic aid granted by the Chinese government. The total volume of aid will be close to $250 million. These sport facilities are expected to host European and world championships, qualification matches of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. A match of the UEFA Super Cup can be organized in the stadium. The technical and economic aid projects are being successfully implemented.

Construction began in August 2020. Linear schedules of construction and prospects for the year 2024 were discussed during the visit. The facilities are scheduled to commission in Q3 2024.

Nikolai Snopkov noted that the Belarusian side honors agreements on the priority projects and confirms the readiness to provide comprehensive assistance to the work of Chinese managers and general contractors.
