Slutsk Cheese-Making Plant starts lactoferrin manufacturing project

MINSK, 9 November (BelTA) – Slutsk Cheese-Making Plant has started implementing an innovative project to make lactoferrin. Tatiana Volozgina, Head of the Production Technology Department of KUP Minoblmyasomolprom, the managing company of the holding company Myasomolprom, mentioned it during a roundtable session hosted by BelTA to discuss development strategies, scientific support, product processing for the sake of raising the economic efficiency of the animal husbandry industry.

Tatiana Volozgina said: “Our enterprises keep developing. We develop plans for upgrading and retooling manufacturing facilities because all the equipment has to be updated. Executives pay close attention to the matter. A number of investment projects are being implemented.”

In her words, the Kopyl-based branch of the company is about to finish a project, which envisages the production of rapidly dissolving skimmed and whole milk powder. Equipment is being commissioned now. Commercial manufacturing will begin by the end of the year.

According to Tatiana Volozgina, this year Slutsk Cheese-Making Plant has started implementing an innovative project to make lactoferrin. A business plan has already been worked out. Pre-design work is in progress. “Lactoferrin is a component of the human immune system and stimulates growth of health-promoting bacteria. The end product gets added to baby formulas, healthy food for athletes, medications, and dietary supplements. On the whole, it has a broad range of applications,” she said.

Lactoferrin enjoys a strong demand on the world market, this is why the company will also export it. The world market’s supply of lactoferrin is expected to grow by 7.64% every year. In monetary terms it will go from $205.43 million in 2022 to $422.68 in 2032.
