Slovakia interested in cooperation with Belarus in energy industry, woodworking

VITEBSK, 12 May (BelTA) – Slovakia is interested in advancing cooperation with Belarus in power engineering and woodworking industry, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Slovakia to Belarus Jozef Migas in Vitebsk on 12 May.

Jozef Migas is taking part in the fifth international economic forum Innovations. Investments. Prospects that opened in Vitebsk on 12 May.

The diplomat noted that cooperation with Belarus in power engineering holds a lot of promise. Slovakia has a well-developed mechanical engineering industry that supplies equipment for power engineering purposes, he said. “Belarus needs new technologies. You should retool your power engineering industry to make it more effective. In order to do that, it is necessary to repair and modernize many heating hubs and hydraulic engineering systems, networks and so on. We can offer the relevant innovations and technologies for it,” said the diplomat.

Jozef Migas underlined that he has been in Belarus for about four months and has been able to visit the regions already. “I now see that Belarus is a land of lakes, rivers, and forests. You should promote new zero-waste technologies in the woodworking industry. For instance, it is a good idea to set up enterprises to process hard wood in Brest Oblast and Gomel Oblast. It would be expedient to process soft wood in Vitebsk Oblast where pines and fir trees are in abundance. We have the technologies. We have interested subjects, who can invest in the establishment of the enterprises,” noted the Ambassador. He added that it is necessary to work out the entire cooperation scheme now.

The fifth international economic forum Innovations. Investments. Prospects is scheduled to take place in Vitebsk on 12-13 May. The forum features an extensive business program including a business matchmaking session, an international conference, a seminar, panel sessions, and exhibition events. The forum has been organized by the Vitebsk Oblast administration and the Vitebsk city administration, the Vitebsk Oblast agency for overseeing the rational use of fuel and energy resources, the Vitebsk Oblast Marketing Center, the Vitebsk Oblast union of employers, and the administration of the free economic zone Vitebsk. The Vitebsk Oblast electrical company Vitebskenergo is the general partner of the forum.
