Slovakia interested in close cooperation with Belarus in at least five lines of business

MINSK, 25 November (BelTA) – Slovakia is interested in close cooperation with Belarus in at least five lines of business. Concrete vectors of developing Belarus-Slovakia interaction were discussed at the meeting of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko with Slovakia Prime Minister Robert Fico on 25 November, BelTA informs.

The talks focused on the prospects of bilateral contacts in trade and economy. The head of state supported the proposals of the Slovak side regarding the joint projects in the pharmaceutical industry, nuclear energy, tire manufacturing, wood processing, gas industry, and defense. The Belarusian side is ready to start discussing these projects in the near future.

Slovakia, in turn, will welcome Belarusian businessmen, Robert Fico noted.

The Slovak guest spoke about the historical aspects of Slovakia’s development, about the difficult moments of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. According to the head of government, the country is vigorously developing, overcoming many negative consequences of thoughtless privatization. The current government is doing its best to take the objects of strategic importance under control. Many of them were sold in the 1990s for a price significantly lower than the market price to the firms which were reluctant to invest in the development of these important enterprises and companies.

Robert Fico spoke in positive terms about Belarus which is famous for the stable and dynamic development, well-considered decisions, including on privatization. Besides, Belarus’ political stability is an important factor of good-neighborliness.

Belarus has a constructive position on the Eastern Partnership initiative, the Slovak head of government said. Therefore, the opinion of the Belarusian side about the development of the initiative is important.

At the same time, he suggested stepping up efforts to popularize Belarus, its successes and places of interest because people in Europe should know more about Belarus’ achievements.

The meeting of Alexander Lukashenko and Robert Fico is a kind of investment in the development of the Belarusian-Slovak relations which have a huge potential, according to the both sides.
