Serkov: Forum Brest 2016 will bolster contacts between Belarusian, Polish regions

BREST, 22 February (BelTA) – The first edition of the business forum Brest 2016 scheduled for 21-22 April will give a new impetus to cooperation between Belarusian and Polish regions, said Deputy Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Mikhail Serkov as he met with Charge d’Affaires of Poland in Belarus Michal Chabros on 22 February, BelTA has learned.

“We pin big hopes on this forum and expect that it will strengthen our cooperation, first of all, with Polish partners. We should get properly prepared for the event, so that we could sign agreements and contracts during the forum. The event should become a platform for developing a constructive dialogue, not for making acquaintances,” Mikhail Serkov pointed out.

In 2015, the trade between Belarus’ Brest Oblast and Poland exceeded $263.5 million. Enterprises of the region attracted as much as $18 million of Polish investments. Mikhail Serkov stressed that Brest Oblast has great potential for bolstering ties with Polish regions in many fields.

For example, Polish travel agencies have been invited to take part in the forum and consider the opportunities for strengthening cooperation and increasing mutual tourist flows. The organizers also invite Polish businessmen who are willing to invest in the region’s vegetable processing industry. “We will help them come to our market. We have asked the Polish side to support our entrepreneurs and businesses that want to carve out a bigger niche in the Polish market of building materials,” Mikhail Serkov noted.

Michal Chabros supported Brest Oblast’s initiative and promised to convey the information to Polish businessmen interested in cooperation with Belarus.

The forum Brest 2016 is aimed at boosting international and interregional cooperation. It will provide a platform for presenting Brest Oblast’s investment potential and a venue for meetings and a constructive dialogue between future business partners. The preparations for the forum are underway. “Many businessmen show interest in the event. At the moment, we are exchanging information and compiling the list of participants,” Mikhail Serkov said.
