Second stage of China-sponsored public welfare housing project to begin in Belarus in 2017

MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – The second stage of the project to build public welfare homes using technical and economic aid from China will begin in 2017, BelTA learned from Belarusian First Deputy Architecture and Construction Minister Alexander Kruchanov after the opening ceremony of the international civil engineering expo Budpragres 2016 on 6 September.

Alexander Kruchanov noted: “A total of ¥700 million has been granted to implement the project to build public welfare homes. The houses will be owned by municipal authorities. Those, who need such homes, will live there.”

The project is supposed to be implemented in two stages. The construction of 16 houses with over 1,400 apartments with the total area of 80,400m2 will begin in 2016. The construction of 22 houses with nearly 1,900 apartments with the total area of 110,500m2 will begin in 2017. “We also believe there will be a third stage. We are going to build the houses using money we will save during the first two stages thanks to lower costs per square meter,” explained the First Deputy Architecture and Construction Minister.

The international civil engineering expo Budpragres 2016 opened in the Football Arena in Minsk on 6 September to showcase new construction products, modern technologies and equipment. Over 200 top construction companies from Belarus, Belgium, China, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Czechia, Iran, and Ukraine are taking part in the expo.
