BISHKEK, 26 October (BelTA) – The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries should join efforts to weaken the dominance of the West in economy and finance, Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at the meeting of the SCO Heads of Government Council, BelTA reports.
Roman Golovchenko noted that Belarus expects to join the ranks of the SCO as a full member very soon. “I would like to focus on a number of important areas of the organization’s activities and put forward proposals that we believe will produce significant results for all participants of the organization. One of these proposals is about economic cooperation. Belarus is an open and export-oriented economy. The SCO member states account for more than 70% of Belarus’ total trade,” he said.
According to the Belarusian head of government, the time has come to move to the practical dimension and strengthen the economic component of the SCO.
“The Belarusian side fully supports the speedy implementation of the roadmap signed in Samarkand to gradually increase the share of national currencies in mutual settlements. Our country is ready to fully participate in the work of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Interbank Consortium. Only through joint efforts will we be able to challenge the dominance of the West in a number of areas of economy and finance, and reduce the negative impact of illegal sanctions and illegitimate restrictions,” the prime minister emphasized.
