Rusy: Belarus, Adjara plan to boost trade to $200m

MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) - Belarus and Adjara aim to raise the bilateral trade to $200 million, Belarus Deputy Prime Minister Mikhail Rusyi said at the Minsk-Batumi forum in the Belarusian capital, BelTA has learned.

"Business forums have turned into an instrument of practical support of the agreements that were reached during the visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to Georgia. We were tasked to raise the trade to at least $200 million. The task is difficult but achievable," said Mikhail Rusyi. According to him, the main task is to maximize the trade and economic cooperation on all fronts.

Mikhail Rusyi noted that building up mutual sales is a step towards boosting the cooperation. "Our aim is to establish corporate relations, set up joint ventures, use a joint platform of one country to promote products and services to another country. We have already had the response from business,” Mikhail Rusyi said.

As an example of cooperation, he cited a contract to supply Adjara tobacco to Belarus. "Adjara grows a small amount of tobacco, but it fits our requirements and we have signed the contract. Let's continue to build our relationships: your tobacco, our cigarettes which we will sell together,” Mikhail Rusyi suggested.

He also noted the great potential in the tourism sector.
