MINSK, 24 March (BelTA) - Governor of Russia’s Orel Oblast Vadim Potomsky suggested creating joint Belarusian-Russian dairy enterprises in this Russian region. The Governor made this proposal when meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk on 24 March, BelTA has learned.
“We want to set up a big logistic center for Belarus in the territory of Orel Oblast. The distance between us is small. The consumption market is huge. The population within a radius of 300-400km from Orel Oblast is 45 million people. The sales market is huge,” said Vadim Potomsky.
The Governor noted that the parties could increase cooperation both in the area of food production and mechanical engineering and also in other areas. “You have something to show. We have something to see and learn from,” the Governor said.
According to Vadim Potomsky, Belarus’ experience in agribusiness is in demand in Orel Oblast. “Belarus’ technologies and achievements are applicable in Orel Oblast. We are absolutely identical in terms of climatic conditions, time zone,” he said. The Governor remarked that though soil fertility is worse in Belarus than in Orel Oblast still the crops yield in the country is higher than in Orel Oblast where black soil is abound. “This suggests that the technologies and fertilizers, which are used in Belarus, are more efficient. We need to adopt this experience,” Vadim Potomsky said.
