Russia’s Omsk Oblast seeks to boost all-round cooperation with Belarus

MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) – Omsk Oblast of Russia is eager to develop cooperation with Belarus in production of farm machines and vehicles, Director of the Economic Policy Department at the Omsk City Administration Gulnar Aitkhozhina said during the international business forum of the chambers of commerce and industry of Omsk Oblast of Russia, Kazakhstan, and Lithuania held in Minsk on 12 May, BelTA has learned.

“Omsk Oblast is ready to cooperate with Belarus in various fields. We are mostly interested in the production of vehicles. Our delegation comprises representatives of enterprises producing farm machinery who are interested to learn about the possibilities of developing cooperation with Belarusian colleagues. Pharmaceutics and production of medical equipment represent another promising area. I hope that today’s meeting will be fruitful,” Gulnar Aitkhozhina noted.

Besides, Omsk Oblast businessmen expressed desire to develop cooperation in some other fields such as machine-tool industry, production and assembly of prefabricated houses from glued laminated timber, development of electrical products for oil and gas industry, development and production of railway vehicles, production of water-, energy-, and heat-saving equipment, production of macaroni and cereal products, and many others. “We are ready to set up joint enterprises on the territory of Belarus and Omsk Oblast. We are interested in all kinds of cooperation ties,” Gulnar Aitkhozhina stressed.

Omsk Oblast is eager not only to strengthen its business ties with Belarus, but also to bolster the bilateral cultural cooperation. “Our delegation includes cultural workers who have prepared a concert program. Besides, we have brought an exhibition of children's paintings that will be later presented to Belarus as a gift,” Gulnar Aitkhozhina said. Omsk Oblast of Russia is ready to invite Belarus to organize joint sports events, including ones for young people.

For his part, Director General of the Minsk Office of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Alexander Fedorchuk noted that Belarus and Omsk Oblast of Russia should step up their efforts to bolster the bilateral trade. “Representatives of over 40 Belarusian companies are taking part in today’s forum, so I believe that the business matchmaking session will be held at a high level,” Alexander Fedorchuk noted.

The trade between Belarus and Omsk Oblast made up $14.9 million in January-March 2015. Belarus’ export amounted to $6.8 million, import to $8.1 million. Belarus’ major exports to Omsk Oblast were ferrous metal wire, paint and polish, liquefied gas, gas stoves, harvesting machines, loading machines, and sugar. Belarus imports ethers, carbon, synthetic rubber, tires, ketones, quinones and their derivatives.

The Omsk Oblast delegation will stay in Belarus till 15 May. The Russian businessmen have plans to visit Mogilev.
