Russian-Belarusian tram factory launched in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of Russia

MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) - A joint Russian-Belarusian tram factory was opened in Vorsma, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of Russia on 3 December, BelTA learned from press secretary of the Industry Ministry Oksana Karuna.

The launch ceremony was attended by Ambassador of Belarus to Russia Dmitry Krutoi, Belarusian Industry Minister Aleksandr Rogozhnik, Governor of  Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Gleb Nikitin and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov of Russia.

The name of the tram is MiNiN which means Minsk + Nizhny Novgorod. The factory is expected to roll out 170 trams.

Nizhekotrans, a joint venture co-founded by the Belarusian manufacturer of electric buses, trolleybuses and trams BKM Holding, was registered in September 2022. The company was set up to localize the production of tram cars for the needs of Nizhny Novgorod in accordance with the agreements reached earlier between the government of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast and BKM Holding. The project to supply 170 tram cars to Nizhny Novgorod is slated for implementation in 2022-2024. According to the contract, BKM Holding will supply ten fully assembled tram cars T811, 26 three-section trams T856, 20 tram car sets and 114 sets of tram car bogies and electrical equipment to Nizhekotrans.

“It is strategically important to strengthen Belarusian-Russian cooperation in the industrial sector in the light of sanctions. The working groups of the business cooperation council have been conducting pinpoint work to promote ties between enterprises of the two countries. I am confident that the visit will contribute to strengthening the Union State's industrial potential,” Industry Minister Aleksandr Rogozhnik said.
