MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) – The Russian company AEM Technologies (part of Atomenergomash, which is the mechanical engineering division of the Russian state corporation Rosatom) has dispatched a stop ring and a support ring for the second power-generating unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA learned from the Atomenergomash press service.
The equipment was made by the Volgodonsk-based enterprise Atommash of the Russian company AEM Technologies. The two rings are designed to secure the reactor pressure vessel in its designated position. The two rings are capable of keeping the reactor pressure vessel in place in critical situations such as seismic disturbances. All the equipment falls into the first-degree seismic resistance category.
The stop ring weighs about 20 tonnes, the support ring weighs over 10 tonnes. The rings are more than five meters in diameter. The rings will be delivered by trucks using special international permits for transporting supersize cargoes. The total travel distance will exceed 2,200km.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build a VVER-1200 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The BelNPP will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW).
